UNTITLED.psd: New Media Artwork from Northern Illinois University art students

ON VIEW AND RECEPTION: DECEMBER 7 FROM 3 TO 6 PM

New Genres Art Space is pleased to host the exhibition UNTITLED.psd, which features work from 14 undergraduate students from the Time Arts program at Northern Illinois University. The exhibition will feature a variety of computer-based mediums and styles such as virtual reality, 3d modeling and animation, performance, interactive video games, hand-drawn animation, character design, performance, and more. This exciting exhibition offers many of participating NIU Art and Design students the first opportunity to have their work viewed by the public, outside the University.

The students named the exhibition UNTITLED.psd, which may be an esoteric term to most viewers outside of design and technology fields. But, to them, and to designers and digital artists across the world, .psd is an Adobe Photoshop file and “untitled” is a common way to hastily name a file that is important enough to save (in case of a software malfunction), but not important enough to properly identify for future reference--usually leading to confusion in locating the aforementioned file for future needs..

Participating artists include:

Bethany Nicoli, Itzel Banuelos, Cassandra Bermijo, Amy Caboor, Ethen DeBoer, Ryan Dewey, Cashmir Ford, Dani Gross, Stephen Gustafson, Juvia London, Ina Murphy, Dylan Pennington, Patrick Pham, Katie Phillips, Yamin Xu.

ABOUT TIME ARTS AT NIU

At Northern Illinois University, Time Arts is a digital media and design program that explores leading-edge tools for creating motion, animation, interaction, and visualization.

Time Arts encompasses coursework in 2D/3D animation, video art, sound, data visualization and interactivity.

We are a research institution so we are constantly creating with new tools and techniques. However, our Time Arts students are proficient in Adobe CC, Autodesk, and many open source software programs. Time Arts students can choose to focus on one area, or explore and study in all of these disciplines, with an emphasis on the overall integration of media elements. Your result is a B.F.A. degree that prepares you to be employed in the rapidly changing technical and creative markets of contemporary digital culture.
